Merryman House Rodeo

Equestrian and bull riders are saddling up in September to support the Merryman House. For the first time, the local nonprofit is partnering with the Lone Star Rodeo Company to bring a unique rodeo to Paducah.

A few years ago, the owners of the Lone Star Rodeo Company were visiting Paducah for an event and had an idea to host one of their signature rodeos at Carson Park. The rodeo company enjoys partnering with nonprofits local to the towns they host events within and were recommended to speak with Gina Leeper, a representative from the Merryman House.

With an impressive track record, the Lone Star Rodeo Company is a family-owned organization that has been hosting rodeos since 1949. The company’s home base is in Crofton, KY and hosts more than 40 events each year across the Southeast that draw in spectators from across the region.

The Merryman House board had lengthy conversations about the rodeo event and believed it could be a great way to raise awareness and funds for their nonprofit. The Merryman House is the only certified domestic violence program in the Purchase Area Development District and dedicated to saving the lives of those affected by domestic violence. Gina Leeper, Resource Development Committee Chair, took the reins and helped make the event a reality.

“Carson Park needed some updates before we could host the rodeo on its premises, so it took a few years. In the meantime, I visited one of Lone Star Rodeo Company’s events in Bowling Green and helped plan for the Paducah rodeo. We are very excited and believe it will become the Merryman House’s signature event!” says Gina Leeper.

The Lone Star Rodeo company will host eight different rodeo events at the IPRA 2nd Sanction in Paducah. Spectators will enjoy western style and family entertainment during the rodeo including saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, calf roping, cowgirl breakaway, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding and barrel racing. To keep guests entertained between events, the rodeo will have a rodeo clown and fancy trick roping acts. The family-friendly event has something for everyone with the many entertaining events and vendors that will be selling unique products and an assortment of food options.

“We believe people will be excited to attend the rodeo because it is an event the entire family can enjoy. This event not only benefits the Merryman House, but the entire community,” says Gina Leeper.

The IPRA 2nd Sanction Rodeo will take place in Paducah at Carson Park on September 6th and 7th, 2019. More information and tickets will be available closer to date on the Lone Star Rodeo Company’s website. Fifty percent of all proceeds from the rodeo will be donated to the Merryman House. Sponsorship opportunities are available and can be inquired about by contacting Gina Leeper at ginaleeper@yahoo.com or 270-217-0442.
