Keeping Sprits High at Rivercrest Place

Rivercrest Place Assisted Living is doing all they can to keep residents engaged and positive through these difficult times. While they may be facing challenges, their spirits are higher than ever and so is their determination to keep their residents safe and healthy.

October ended with a SPOOKTacular time at the first annual Rivercrest Haunted House. Residents and staff all chipped in to design a winding maze of ghouls and goblins, including a pumpkin funeral at “Died on the Vine Funeral Home”, a managers “graveyard”, and a visit from Dracula. A ghastly good time was had by all and they look forward to doing this again next year.

November kicked off with the election, a time in which Ms. Lois Drake reminded everyone how important it was to vote. When asked why she felt voting was so important, she responded with, “It takes all of us to make a democracy.” Our seniors take the right to vote very seriously and make every effort to make sure they are able to cast their ballot in each and every election. By their estimation, more than 90% of residents voted in this election.

The month of November continued with a culinary trip to Italy and a celebration of our Veterans. Below is a poem written by a resident in honor of the Veterans here and all across the country. Rivercrest Place is proud to have six veterans living in their community and this poem is a beautiful dedication to their service and sacrifice.

How can we say “thanks”?

How can we say thanks for all you have done for us?
We’ve made few sacrifices…you have given much.
Some of you bear body scarfs from skirmishes on battlefields,
Others still have nightmares that don’t seem even now to yield.

But you have made a difference in lives you’ll never know,
And how can we show our gratitude just to let you know?
Prayers of thanks and that we’re all free Is just the beginning it seems to me.

We can’t erase the friends you’ve lost;
Or even imagine the other costs,
But we can ask our “maker” as we sing,
To give you a special pair of wings.

IN THE VUE
