Pints with Purpose
Casting for Recovery (CfR) is a national nonprofit organization that provides a free outdoor healing retreat for local women with breast cancer at any age or any stage. We are fundraising to expand our program into western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeastern Missouri – the CfR River Valley program.
Pints with Purpose is an event to provide outreach about our retreat and educational opportunities and raise funds to bring a retreat to this area in spring 2025. There will be a casting competition, a raffle for a fly rod and reel, CfR branded merchandise for sale, and Dry Ground Brewing Company is both hosting and providing a percent of the sales as a donation to help establish this new retreat program for local women.
CfR is at the beginning of its 28th year serving women with breast cancer. Our proven retreat programs transform the lives of the women. The fly fishing provides an exercise in mindfulness, a proven practice for coping with psychosocial distress. By providing an opportunity to experience the retreat with other women who have the shared experience of breast cancer, lifelong friendships are forged and the women receive important information about the ongoing physical and mental effects of breast cancer. They become empowered in their breast cancer journey. This in turn supports more than the one woman, it creates a ripple effect of strength and healing that impacts the community.
